FAQ Please Note, the following information is to be used as a reference only.
Question: What is a .DLL file extension, and why are they so important?
Answer: .DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library.
This is a file that contains executable code. When you install a program on your computer it may add DLL files for its own use. Programs can also share DLL files. Think of the DLL files like a library. When a program requires a certain piece of information it will look for the proper .DLL file and take the code from it in order to function properly.
If a certain DLL file is missing and a program cannot find it, usually the program cannot run. Reinstalling a program will usually restore any missing DLL files that it requires.
